About me
Sebastian Ecker is a senior engineer at Quantum Technology Laboratories GmbH (qtlabs), where he drives the deployment of cutting-edge quantum-safe communication infrastructures. His expertise spans both satellite links and terrestrial optical fiber networks, ensuring secure data transmission in an era of evolving cybersecurity threats. A trusted advisor to diverse industries, Sebastian guides the seamless integration of quantum-safe solutions into existing communication systems. He leads a groundbreaking initiative to implement Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) systems in Austria’s critical infrastructure and actively contributes to several other high-impact projects driving the future of quantum-secure technologies.
Sebastian holds a master’s degree in Technical Physics from TU Vienna, supervised by Anton Zeilinger, and a PhD from the Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) in Vienna, supervised by Marcus Huber, where he focused on noise-resilient high-dimensional entanglement distribution. During his PhD, he served as a visiting scientist for the European Space Agency (ESA), identifying future quantum technologies for satellite-based QKD.
My organisation
Quantum cryptography is the most mature technology of the new era. It’ll secure public and private infrastructure based on nature’s fundamental law if implemented in the right way. qtlabs develops designs and prototypes for the technical implementation of quantum encryption into your infrastructure. We are committed to understanding our customers’ business case and derive and adapt quantum protocols and requirements for devices to fulfill the actual needs.
If you are looking for expertise in quantum communication we are your natural partner. We have been dealing with quantum communication since basic science has become a matter of application. We have broken several world records in our previous academic careers over the last 20 years, and many still hold. *In our previous academic career, we have successfully demonstrated satellite down links. To date (2023), these down links still represent the only successful demonstrations outside of China.
